RE: San Diego to Jacksonville NC__ where to stay?

You have been in California too long. Calling I-40 the 40 is a dead giveaway. LOL I would recommend Tom Sawyer's RV park in West Memphis for a stopover. It is right off I-40 ( the 40 ) and on the Mississippi River. Great spot to watch the barges and river traffic if you are interested in that sort of thing. Bean Pot Campground in Crossville, TN is a nice stopover also. It is close to I-40 and they have nice sites. That time of the year the pool will be closed, but the area is nice.

RE: Any places to get RV antifreeze cheap?

ACE Hardware has it on sale in Maryland with a coupon for $2 off. Not sure of final price. Check your local ACE Hardware and they may have the final price.

Gaylord Maxwell died on Sept 20, 2008, not this past Saturday. He became ill during the Hershey RV Show and passed away shortly after that.

RE: Ford 460 FI dies after 20 miles - FIXED Thanksl!!!

I had the same problem with a van a number of years ago. When I took it to the shop and I said the fuel pump was the problem, they said no. They would have to run tests to see what the problem was. After testing, it was the fuel pump. It would run for 10-15 miles and then die. After sitting for a while it would start up again and continue on for 10-15 miles. Let us know the outcome of this if you don't mind.

RE: What can a United Kingdom Person Drive ?

I don't think there are any restrictions on what size RV you can rent. If you have small children I would advise you to look into a Class C MH since they have beds above the front of the MH and one in the rear also. Smaller would be better if you intend to travel a lot of miles in a short time. You could use it like you would a car and it would be easier to handle in traffic. We took a 30ft Class A ( bus type ) to Alaska and didn't take a tow car since we could park the MH in most places with a little bit of work. Keep in mind that most of the US is cold in early January. I'm speaking of Jan-March timeframe. Warmer spots are Florida, Southern Texas & Arizona. This is also the busiest time of the year for those places with all the snowbirds roosting there. It can be a challenge to find a camping spot during this time. Come on over and bring lots of British Pounds to spend. LOL JMHO

RE: Campgrounds around Albuquerque

Keep in mind that there are two KOA's in the Albuquerque area. One is in downtown Albuquerque and the other is in Bernalillo which is north of Albuquerque right along I-25. I prefer the Bernalillo KOA due to it's location. Easy shot south on I-25 for the Balloon Fiesta and they have a nice pool, free pancake breakfast and coffee, clean restrooms and a friendly staff. Downside is a train track next to it but we rarely ever hear the train.

RE: Campgrounds around Albuquerque

The town of Bernalillo has a nice campground on 550 just a few miles from the I-25 exit. Water and electric with a dump station. They have covered picnic tables and long pull thru's. Website: http://www.passport-america.com/campgrounds/united_states/new_mexico/bernalillo/coronado_campground/ Also, there is a nice KOA in Bernalillo which we have used a number of times in the past 10 years.

RE: Hwy 60/77 ShowLow to Oracle, AZ

If you are comfortable driving through Salt River Canyon and steep grades and switchbacks then you shouldn't have any problems. The Canyon area is the worst part of the drive on the MH. Gear down early and use the low gears as much as possible. Watch using your brakes too much and you should be ok.

RE: Gas prices and people getting stupid!!

revrnd, Why would Canadians be fighting for gasoline in Canada? Doesn't Canada have any refineries? I thought the US imported oil/fuel from Canada. Crazy world we all live in.

RE: hersehy rv show

The announced attendance at Harrisburg for 9/10/08 was 5200+ and last year the attendance for same day was 4100. That must have been an encouraging sign for the vendors. We managed to check out a number of 2009 Class A's and they had a pretty good selection. The Show Prices were a laugher since they were 10-20% off of +200K rigs, but I guess that keeps the uninterested from asking about a unit. Great show and we managed to wear ourselves out checking out the units. Ran out of time as a matter of fact.

RE: Camping in Oklahoma?

Lake Thunderbird SP east of Norman, OK is very pretty in the fall. The trees around the lake look beautiful with vivid colors. The campground is in a heavily wooded area near the lake. I would imagine there are a number of other SP in the Northeast part of the state that are very pretty in the fall. We camped at Twin Bridges SP and there were large tracts of trees there also. Haven't been there in the fall though to verify that.

RE: Workhorse Chassis motorhome brake failure?

Just my .02 cents on the subject. I own a 2002 MH on a workhorse chassis and have had two brake failures in 39,000 miles. First was on I-75 in Florida and lost brakes completely. Luckily I was able to coast to a stop and call dealer. He said there was a recall on the brakes and to bring in the MH for repair. Second was 2,500 miles ago in Arizona. Cracked rotors was the culprit this time. Had them repaired and installed new brake pads while they were at it. Previous non workhorse motorhome had 82,000 miles on it with the original brakes. I also use a brake buddy to assist in stopping the motorhome.

RE: Suggestions for MD trip

There aren't many choices in that area in February. State Parks will be closed and that limits you to a couple private campgrounds. Ramblin Pines ($43/night) is about 30 miles from Ft. Meade and the Duncan Family Campground is south of Ft. Meade a number of miles. Not sure of price there. If you son is in the Army then you may be able to use the Fam Camp the military provides. Also not sure of rules for relatives using the Fam Camps. Good luck.
